Loosen the lockring and change the chainring: This is how you avoid mistakes

Changing the chain and chainring is part of standard maintenance. But there is one hurdle waiting for the e-bike: the lock ring. Many DIY screwdrivers fail here and, in the worst case, ruin the teeth on the motor.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them:

  • Wrong direction of rotation: Attention, many e-bike systems use a left-hand thread (e.g. Bosch Gen 3/4). If you press in the wrong direction, the ring will become inextricably tight.

  • Cheap tool: A simple universal wrench almost always slips at high torques (often 30-40 Nm). The result is a “round” gearing.

  • Dirt in the thread: Small stones and dried mud act like glue. Thoroughly clean the area before applying the tool.

Why special tools are mandatory: We carry precision in our shop Lockring tools for all common systems (Bosch, Brose, Yamaha). A precisely fitting tool distributes the force evenly across all teeth of the ring. If your ring is already damaged, you can also find the right one with us Replacement lock ringto securely lock your system again.
