Repairing a Brose e-bike motor: which parts are available for Drive C, S, T and TF

Yes, a Brose e-bike motor can be repaired: freewheels, drive belts and the crankshaft are available as individual parts. The operating manual, however, only provides for repairs by a specialist dealer. This guide explains what it says and which parts we stock for the Brose Drive C, S, T and TF.

What the operating manual says about opening the motor

The operating manual of the Brose S Mag in the version for the FIT system (version dated 6 June 2025) says that you should not open the drive unit yourself and that it may only be repaired by qualified specialists using original spare parts. It also states that opening the drive unit without authorisation voids the warranty claim. For repairs the manual refers to the specialist dealer, because they require specialist knowledge and special tools.

If your bike is still under warranty or guarantee, go to your dealer first.

First identify the series and the housing

Brose presented the “Drive” family in 2017: the Drive T for everyday use, the Drive S for sporty riding and the Drive TF with assistance up to 45 km/h. Then there is the Drive C. Each of these series exists with a housing made of aluminium (Alu) or magnesium (Mag). We do not stock parts for other Brose motors.

For most of the parts below the series makes no difference: according to the product page, the freewheels, crankshaft and lockring fit the Drive C, S, T and TF with Alu and Mag housing. Only for the belt kit does the housing decide.

Freewheels

A Brose motor has two freewheels: one on the crankshaft and one in the belt pulley. If the crank spins freely when you pedal, one of them is the first suspect. How to narrow it down is explained in the guide Brose freewheel failure: when the crank suddenly spins freely.

Drive belt

In the Brose motors Drive C, S, T and TF a toothed belt transmits the power from the electric motor to the drive. For the belt kit the housing decides:

How to recognise a torn or slipping belt is explained in the guide Brose motor: belt snapped or slipping? Symptoms, the right belt kit and costs.

What you should know before buying

What the manual says about care

Never immerse the motor in water and never clean it with a high-pressure cleaner, water jet or compressed air, do not use cleaning agents, but wipe it with a damp, soft cloth. Only replace components on the motor with identical parts or parts approved by the manufacturer for your bike.
